Hair Loss and Trichology

Before treating, understand why. Hair loss has very different causes and each responds to a different treatment.

Most common causes

  • Androgenetic alopecia — the most common, with progressive miniaturisation of the follicle and a characteristic pattern.
  • Telogen effluvium — diffuse, sudden shedding two to three months after a trigger: childbirth, surgery, illness, restrictive dieting, intense stress.
  • Nutritional and metabolic causes — iron deficiency, thyroid disorders, vitamin deficiencies.
  • Alopecia areata — loss in well defined patches, of autoimmune origin.
  • Scalp conditions — seborrhoeic dermatitis and psoriasis, which can worsen hair loss.

Diagnosis

The consultation includes a detailed medical history, examination of the scalp and the hair loss pattern and, when indicated, blood tests to rule out systemic causes.

This step is not optional. Treating hair loss caused by iron deficiency with mesotherapy does not solve the problem. Correcting the iron does.

Treatments

  • Medical treatment — topical or oral, depending on the cause.
  • Scalp mesotherapy — micro injections of vitamins and substances that stimulate the follicle, in a multi session protocol.
  • PRP — platelet rich plasma obtained from your own blood, with growth factors that act on the follicle.
  • Scalp microneedling — improves blood flow and boosts absorption of topical treatments.
  • Correcting deficiencies — supplementation guided by blood tests, not by guesswork.

Frequently asked questions

When should I seek help?

When you notice a clear change from your usual pattern: more hair loss than normal for you for more than a few weeks, thinning hair, or a more visible scalp. The earlier, the more room there is to act.

Does PRP hurt?

There is some discomfort during the micro injections in the scalp, which is a sensitive area. A topical anaesthetic is used and the session is relatively quick.

Is postpartum hair loss reversible?

In most cases, yes. It is a telogen effluvium triggered by hormonal changes, typically recovering on its own over six to twelve months. Even so, it is worth ruling out associated iron deficiency.
