Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Restoring volume with hyaluronic acid, a substance your body already produces. The guiding principle is always facial proportion, never volume for its own sake.

What hyaluronic acid is

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule naturally present in the skin, with a great capacity to retain water. With age, the amount available decreases, and with it hydration, firmness and volume.

Injectable fillers replenish this substance in specific areas. One important advantage over other materials: it is reversible. If the result is not what you wanted, there is an enzyme that dissolves it.

Treated areas

  • Lips — hydration, contour definition and correction of asymmetries, respecting proportion with the rest of the face.
  • Under eyes — filling the tear trough, which softens a tired look.
  • Cheeks — restoring volume to the cheekbones, lifting the mid face.
  • Nasolabial folds and marionette lines — softening the lines that run down from the nose and the corners of the mouth.
  • Chin and jawline — profile definition.

How it works

A topical anaesthetic is applied before the procedure and most products already contain anaesthetic. The session takes between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the areas.

Some swelling in the first 48 hours is normal and bruising is possible, especially on the lips and under the eyes. That is why we do not recommend scheduling the procedure the day before an important event. Ideally, allow two weeks.

Duration

It depends on the area, the product and individual metabolism. In general, lips last between six and twelve months, and areas of greater support, such as the cheeks, between twelve and eighteen months.

Safety

The under eye and perinasal areas require particular care because of the nearby blood vessels. That is why these procedures should be performed by a physician with anatomical knowledge, and not in a non clinical setting.

Frequently asked questions

Will my lips look overdone?

That is neither the goal nor our practice. We work with small amounts and, when needed, over more than one spaced session. It is always possible to add more at a second appointment; removing is more uncomfortable.

Does filler migrate?

With the right product, correct technique and sensible amounts, it is not expected. Migration is mainly associated with excess volume built up over successive treatments without time for reassessment.

Can I reverse it if I do not like it?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, an enzyme given by injection. It is one of the reasons we prefer this material.

How long until I can get back to normal?

The same day, with simple care: avoid intense exercise, heat and massaging the area for the first 24 to 48 hours. Initial swelling settles within a few days.
